Life is an Occasion; Rise to it!

Finishing school definitely feels a bit surreal. I know that most people graduate from college these days so it may not seem like a big deal, but it feels good to finish what I started 12 years ago. I always wanted to go to college and not sure where along the road I thought I'd lost the dream. Turns out dreams etched deep inside don't go away that easily even when you fight it.

I made it official on May 21, 2011 and decided you're never to old to walk across the stage in a cap and gown. I was lucky enough to celebrate the day with some of my very favorite people and felt accomplished, loved, relief, inspired, closure.

Now, I'm working to figure out "what's next?" and honestly, I'm in no huge rush. I'm hopeful life's next step will be unquestionably clear. I usually feel it deep inside when something is right. In the meantime, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't enjoying my extra free time. Life is so good.

P.S. I actually finished before I turned 30!

Hey Jude!

One of the best parts about my station in life is getting to be "auntie" to all my best friends' babies. A couple weeks ago, Shannon's sisters, mom, and I threw her a shower. It turned out awesome! I was in charge of invites and decorations and helped with the cupcakes too.
I went with a vintage nautical theme -- which has been my favorite that I have done so far. I love anchors so the hunt was especially fun this time. Jude's room is decorated this way so the treasures I found doubled as part of my gift.
The anchors on the cupcakes were buttons from etsy. Who knew you'd have to tell people they weren't edible?! Oops.

The favors turned out great too. I put salt water taffy in a brown bag that I used an anchor punch to decorate. I tied it with blue baker's twine.

One of my very favorite parts was the banner I found at Land of Nod. I don't have a picture of it from the party, but this is the pic from the website.

The last pic is one of my favorites -- mom, grandma, and all the aunties. As always, I'm most definitely his favorite.

Overall, I'd say it was a success!

P.S. Yes, that's my sister in the family picture. She's engaged to Shannon's brother and yes, it's slightly strange how my worlds have collided. I'm super happy for her though.

P.P.S. I need a nice camera so I can take good pics.

Day for Lovers - 3rd edition ♥

My Valentine's Days are starting to sound like a broken record, but I haven't changed my mind from last year or the year before that. You don't have to have a lover to love Valentine's Day. So here's my 3rd edition of the things I love.

Today I was eating conversation hearts and the one I read said, "tweet me." Umm, no thanks. I must be getting old because that is NOT what I want my valentine to do someday. Letter writing is a lost art -- love letters, thank you notes, a just because note -- and that's why it's something I love.

I watched this excerpt from the Today Show and cried (in a good way). A handwritten, from-the-heart, charming love letter is better than a tweet any day.

Hawaii 1-1

found here

After thinking about all the big life events coming up I decided I needed a reward. Something BIG. I deserve it after all. But, I wasn't sure what, when, or who with. Some of my closest friends happen to be graduating from med school (I'd consider that a big life event) so a reward was in order for them too. I'd talked to a few about a trip a long time ago, but wasn't committed and kind of forgot until sort of recently. Well, several text messages later, emails, a few phone calls, LOTS and LOTS of research on the part of Megan (she's awesome like that) and it looks like we're going to the Big Island! I'm an easy sell -- Hawaii with great company?!? Yes, please. I bought my plane ticket and sent a check for our condo so there's no turning back now. I couldn't be more excited.

In preparation, Operation Hawaii 1-1 has officially commenced. Mostly due to the fact that I have to be in shorts and a swim suit for the first time in heaven knows how long. I hired a trainer -- who makes my legs scream in pain -- and started my healthy eating plan. I'm committed. Here's hoping I'll be ready in no time.

White Stripes

Is it just me or are these skirts almost perfect? I'd most like the navy and red, but seriously love them all. Find them here.

2011 edition

I was ready to say goodbye to 2010. It wasn't a bad year, I just craved something new. I kept (and continue) telling myself 2011 is going to be a good one. When the clock struck midnight on the 31st, I toasted (with the last Diet Mountain I've had in 12 days) to my life's next chapter.

This year, I'm resolving to dream big dreams, finish things I've started, and love like I've never loved before. In the process, I'm going to be ridiculously happy.

When I was younger, I always wanted to celebrate my 1/2 birthday. In fact, I think there were some years when my friends and I would bring each other little gifts to school for fun. Interesting how the older we get, the more we don't want to bring any extra attention to those milestones. I'd rather be just 29 than 29 1/2 any day. Unfortunately for me, the passage of time is not optional.

The good thing about this day is the realization that I need to get on my list. I've made some progress, but I've got a lot (a whole lot) of work to do. Also, I've got 6 months to get used to my milestone birthday. It will be here before I know it.

Happy 29 1/2 Birthday to me.
